Simple Elderberry Syrup Recipe

This home remedy is a delicious supplement to have on hand during the sick season in times of illness and for prevention. These herbs and spices come together to make a yummy, mulled restorative that fortifies your immune system.

Brief Medicinal Properties

Elderberry: high vitamin C and antioxidant levels to boost your immune system.

Cardamom: antioxidant and antibacterial to prevent infection.

Cinnamon: antimicrobial to inhibit the growth of microbes (fungi, bacteria, parasites, and viruses).

Allspice: reduce inflammation throughout the body and provide topical pain relief.

Raw honey: rich in antioxidants and antibacterial to reduce inflammation and fight off illness.

How to Use Elderberry Syrup

In times of prevention

Adults: 1 TBSP daily

Children: 1 tsp daily

In times of illness:*

Adults: 1 TBSP (every 4-6 hours)

Children: 1 tsp (every 4-6 hours)

*Since elderberry and cardamom are also classified as diuretics, when consuming more than the daily serving recommendation for times of prevention, monitor trips to the bathroom as a precaution.

6 C water

1 C dried elderberry

2 cinnamon sticks

1/4 C cardamom pods

5 allspice rounds

Directions

1. Combine ingredients into a pot and and bring to a boil.

2. Cover, then simmer for an hour.

3. Strain and pour into vessels.

4. Refrigerate or freeze after glass cools.

Plan of Action

I’d recommend preparing this herbal supplement at the cusp of sick season. That way you can use it daily as a preventative, immune boosting measure and as a weapon to fight off an illness once you are sick.
