Hello, welcome. Thank you so much for being here!
This ancient medicinal recipe is a simple home remedy packed with immune boosting properties from both the garlic and raw honey.
Brief Medicinal Properties
Raw honey: rich in antioxidants and antibacterial to reduce inflammation and fight off illness.
Garlic: antibacterial and antiviral to combat illness and infection.
How to Use Fermented Garlic in Honey
When sick…
For adults, chew and swallow a fermented clove.
For children (and those averse to consuming whole garlic), ingest up to a tablespoon of the honey as a DIY alternative to cough syrup.
As a garnish…
I love to top hot or cold sandwiches with this savory sweet garnish. It does well drizzled over cornbread and in a homemade vinaigrette.

How to Ferment Garlic in Honey
- Peel each garlic clove and place into a jar until it is halfway filled.
- Cover cloves with raw honey. (I typically add another inch of honey over the cloves after they’re completely covered.)
- Cap, then store in a cool, dark place for at least a month to allow the fermentation to take place. (It is still usable before then, just with less of the benefits of the fermentation.)
Plan of Action
Start this simple ferment one month prior to cold and flu season so that you’re equipped when the sick season starts.
