Food From ScratchLunch & Dinner

Sausage, Potato, Cabbage Skillet

Hello, welcome. Thank you so much for being here!

Today I’m sharing a simple, flavorful sausage skillet meal that will come together in less than 30 minutes!

Firstly, I must confess that I no longer make this dinner in a skillet.

Following the recipe below will allow you to mix everything together in a 12 inch cast iron pan.

But now when I make this recipe, I double all of the ingredients (except the sausage) to make an extra large batch for leftovers and lunches.

All of that flavorful goodness doesn’t fit into my cast iron pan anymore, so after frying up the potatoes in my cast iron skillet, I use a 5 quart stock pot for everything else.

If you’re looking to make this dinner even simpler, nix the onion and garlic. You’ll still end up with a hearty, flavorful meal that satisfies.

Tools you may need

12 inch pan or skillet

Chef’s knife

Cutting board

Mandolin (optional)

Sausage, Potato, Cabbage Skillet

Servings: 4

Prep Time: 7 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients List

1 lb southern style pork sausage

2 potatoes

1/2 cabbage, shredded or chopped

1 onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt

Pepper

Directions

1. Fry potatoes in 2-3 TBSP of avocado oil, stirring occasionally. It’ll take around 15 minutes for the potatoes to be cooked through (longer if you’re doubling the recipe).

2. While the potatoes cook, dice your onion and mince your garlic. Then, in a large separate pot, brown sausage with your onion and garlic.

3. Once everything fully cooked, transfer potatoes into your sausage pot.

4. Add cabbage and warm through for about 3 minutes. We want the cabbage to maintain its crunch.

5. Stir in freshly cracked salt and pepper.

6. Serve as is, or top with red chili flakes or cayenne for a bit of heat.

Plan of Action

If you’re planning to serve dinner at 5 PM, begin chopping your potatoes at 4:30 PM. Fry them at 4:37 PM and dice your onion and garlic. Cook up sausage, onion and garlic at 4:43 PM. Mix everything together at 4:55, add cabbage and seasonings, and enjoy.

Thank you so much for your time!
